The Art of Dining: A Creative Feast in the Heart of Mittagong
This August, the Southern Highlands will welcome a dining experience unlike any other — one that invites guests to slow down, savour exquisite food, and get a little paint on their hands. On Friday the 30th, The Art of Dining will take over the charming Corinne Dany Studios in Mittagong, offering an immersive evening where artistry and flavour come together in perfect harmony.
Created by local artist Corinne Dany and local, soul-food artist, Dee Ibrahim-Milligan, the event is more than a dinner — it’s a celebration of creative living. Guests will be guided through the design and painting of their own ceramic dish between courses soul-warming, Asian Fusion food prepared by Dee, whose cooking is as comforting as it is refined.
“Art and food are both deeply sensory,” says Corinne. “They invite us into the present moment. This event is about making something with your hands, connecting with others, and enjoying every bite.”
The evening begins at 6pm with canapés and live music by the oh so talented harpist Louise Bell, setting the tone for an experience that feels both intimate and elevated. Guests will then settle into their seats, surrounded by artworks, books and inspiration where Corinne will help each guest design a ceramic bisqueware plate.
The creativity continues after the main course, of a heart-warming Malaysian Slow Cooked Beef Curry, before the evening ends on a sweet, citrusy note with a decadent flourless orange and almond cake.
Guests are encouraged to BYO wine or beer to enjoy throughout the evening — glassware will be provided.
But it’s not just the menu or the painting that makes this event special — it’s the atmosphere. There’s a growing appetite for experiences that go beyond passive entertainment, and The Art of Dining delivers just that. It’s tactile, beautiful, and inspiring.
“People want to be part of something real,” says Dee. “They want to create, to taste, to connect — and that’s exactly what we’re offering.”
Set in a working artist's studio nestled in the creative quarter of Mittagong, this evening is a window into the Highlands' flourishing cultural scene — one that values community, collaboration, and the slow joys of making.
Tickets are limited to 30 and include all materials, food, and artistic guidance. Whether you're an experienced artist, a passionate foodie, or simply looking for a different kind of night out, The Art of Dining promises to leave you with a full heart, a happy belly, and a piece of art you will have to remember the night by.
